Last night I figured out how to work my tv (I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but it was somewhat complicated -- not just hitting the power button). LOL Or maybe it was because I was exhausted and couldn't think straight. Anyway, I am now up and running with mindless entertainment.
Except that it isn't that mindless. First, programs start at weird times -- not on the hour or 1/2 hour, but at times like 10:50 and 11:10 and 12:15.
Second, during the day and evening, most channels are British programs. Starting at about 10 pm, it's all American stuff, but old programs - Malcolm in the Middle (this is on 3 different channels -- they obviously LOVE this show) and Frasier.
Third, they have about 3 or 4 different programs that are like Top Chef and Hell's Kitchen. Food is a big thing here.
Fourth, evidently the entire country is on the same channel lineup no matter where you live -- ads for programming say, "Tonight on 1," instead of "Tonight on ABC."
This morning, I was watching a program called the Jeremy Kelly show -- it's pretty much the same thing as Maury -- it was a "baby daddy" show this morning anyway. Difference? They only bring one couple out at a time, and Jeremy Kelly yells at the people he's interviewing -- "So you were sleeping with her, not using contraception, accusing her of being promiscuous, but the whole time you were living with a romantic partner??? THAT'S A BIT RICH, ISN'T IT?"
Ha, one of my new favorite phrases -- THAT'S A BIT RICH, ISN'T IT?!? It doesn't seem that it's appropriate to say "That's a bit rich;" it requires the added "ISN'T IT?!?"
BUT my new favorite phrase so far.... "She's MINXY!" They were advertising a program that I guess must be like the Tyra show or something and describing the host -- "She's stylish! She's funny! She's sensitive! She's MINXY!"
LOVE it. I'm going to start using this description whenever possible.
Off to Oxford in 15 minutes!

Can I just say you are a phenomenal writer! I'm loving this! So, do they have the really good reality shows, like the British Project Runway?! ;)
But what about the best show in the UK, Dr. Who...tomorrow night is the season finale. Don't miss it, I think it is on BBC1 at 6:50pm. :)
I almost forgot to say...Lisa you are smart, beautiful and you are for sure Minxy!
I haven't seen British Project
Runway yet, I think I need to look up the BBC and ITV schedules to find out what good things are on when. But reality tv seems to be as big a deal to them as it is to us.
And yes, Ned, I agree, I AM Minxy!!! LOL Also slightly mad (see the Oxford Dysfluency post).
